VIRGILIO SIERRA


Virgilio was born in New York City but grew up in Barranquilla, Colombia and lived there until his graduation from high school in 1977. He studied Civil Engineering in the Hannover Technical University in Germany and graduated in architecture from The Georgia Institute of Technology in 1985. He currently resides between Paris and Barranquilla.

He worked in Atlanta with John Portman and Associates in multiple hotel projects for the Hyatt Regency and Marriot hotel groups. Among them the first private hotel built in Shanghai, China after the economic opening of the country.
In New York City he worked as a Senior Designer with Gensler and Associates, considered today to be the largest architectural firm in the world and the inventors of Interior Architecture as a profession. His projects include, the headquarters for companies like Morgan Bank, AIG, Goldman Sachs and HBO.
Since 1991 he founded estudioMORFO with Joseph McCauley and as the Director has dedicated himself to produce residential projects in Europe and Latin America, but mainly in Colombia.

Lately the company has had a new focus within the hotel industry in countries like Dominican Republic, Panama and Colombia, among them is the Hotel Casa Tcherassi in Cartagena Colombia.
Virgilio speaks German, French, English and Spanish. For the last 8 years he has been directing the offices in Paris, Miami and Barranquilla.
